Comments about the web site: Nice site. I was assigned to the 174th
AHC from September 1966 through September 1967. Serving as a pilot a/c and
finally as Second Platoon Leader. I remember the 176th arrival at Tuy Hoa.
I flew many missions from the beach with your unit long before your move
to Chu Lai and our move to Duc Pho.

Comments about the web site: Memory coming back now! I left
(reassigned)Oct 71. Remember "blowing up" FB Maryanne when it was abandoned.
Left on last C130 before Typhoon Hester hit. Remember the flare bird that
went into the sea on last mission for unit. Dustoff found one survivor floating
on fuel cell. Seem to remember the names Mike Johnson and Bartram. JC Penny
was my lil' brothers neighbor in E'prise. I was at the wreck about 20 min
after it happened. Never knew he was in 176 til Dec 99! Great Site pictures
of company areas brought back very very fuzzy memories. I was nothing but
a FNG for my grand 2 months there, but a long time ago.

Mr. Pickles was my pilot that day. He was later killed. He is now buried

killed later that year I would like to know more about what happened that
day. I was at his funeral but did not get a clear story of what happened.

Comments about the web site: I was assigned to the 176th AHC in Nov
70 when the 4th Div. stood-down. As a Spc 4 I worked on the "Charlie Model
(maintenance) Team" until Feb or Mar 71. An opening was created with the
"Muskets" when CE Rodregus (sp) took a 30 MM in the leg. While my Plt. Leader
Cpt Hambergen and Plt. Sgt Sargent were on R&R I talked Maint. Officer
Haskins into allowing me into the flight platoon. I crewed "Musket 618" until
Sep 71 when I ETS'ed. At the time I was mostly known as "Red" because of
my long sandy red hair. I have failed to remember my faithful gunners name
except as "Smilley" That might have been his given name. He had come from
Div. Finance as a clerk to become a really great troop. I passed the Crew
Chief duties over to him when I went back to the farm in Iowa. Those that
served during the summer of '71 might best remember my M Model as the
one with the chromed mini-guns. I've been in the Iowa National Guard for
several years. Serving as a Plt Sgt in a Blackhawk Avn unit. By the way,
gunship 534 was destroyed in a wind storm with the Guard in Waterloo, Iowa
sveral years ago. One final thing I noticed in the personal list a question
mark by the date Gary A. Adams served. I'm sure he came early '71. He was
from Pa. I worked with him before going to the Guns.

Comments about the web site: I served as a door guner in 176th AHC,
in Chu Lia. I arrived in country in Sept. Was briefly a grunt before being
recruited as a doorgunner. Assigned to 2nd Flight. I was there through Laos,
MaryAnne, Typhone Hestor, and the unit's final flight mission, that resulted
in 3 fatalities. Returned to the world in November 71. Later served in Old
Guard, Wash. DC as the President's Announcer, 509th Airborne, went to OCS
commissioned in 1980 as the "Oldest 2Lt" currently retired, do some consulting
work. Serving in the 176th, was the single most educating, horrifying,
devestating, trumatic and dehumanizing event of my life, shared with the
most wonderful people I have had the pleasure to live and serve with. I will
never forget the day I watched Cleve, Traver, Knudsen and Hall as we lifted
off Khe Sahn and then witnessed their shoot down. I was one aircraft ahead
of Cleve who was flying trail. For years I have felt guilty that they were
hit instead of us. I have never forgot them and I never will, or could. I
hope that their families can/have found peace and that before I leave this
world, their remains are finally recovered. God give them peace and God Bless
all who served as Minutemen and Muskets. I know I am late coming to the party
but the next time the 176th has a reunion, I will be there. This is really
a great site! I am proud of the great work Carl as done for all of us veterans
of the 176th.

Comments about the web site: Current Pres. VVA chapter 734 Conroe
,Texas. I am looking for info on UH-1H # 67-17456. Crew members, what unit, ect.
The bird is now a memorial we are currently erecting to honor the Vietnam
and all Veterans who served to defend our country. I would like to find out
as much as I can about this chopper for our dedication ceremony on Nov.11,2000.
Also to invite any of the Veterans who knew her history to attend or at least
be aware that she is now a piece of history we have preserved for all to
remember for ever. This one did'nt find it's way to the junk pile. We have
it mounted in all her glory in front of VFW post 4709. Will have pictures
soon. Need unit info so we can include the proper nose art .

Comments about the web site: I served with the 176th from Feb. 1970
to Jan. 1971. I was originally assigned as a door gunner with the 2nd flight,
then worked at the small PX for a time, then finished out my time with the
2nd flight. I found this site by luck - I thank those who have have spend
all those hours creating the web site.
